What To Do If You're Having A Problem With Ground Bees

Posted on

Ground bees can be a major problem, especially if you aren't sure they are there until you've already stepped on the nest and been stung. They can be a problem for anyone that gets near the nest, including your pet when out in the yard. If you have ground bees, they are going to be a problem if you don't take care of them. Read on for information to help you get rid of these pests.

Flood The Nest

Flood the nest with your garden hose. Stand far enough away and place the hose as close to the nest as you can. You don't want to get too close, as you could get stung by these pests. They may not be too happy with you getting close to their nest and they will be agitated when you flood the nest. You'll notice them coming to and from the nest, so this should tell you exactly where the nest is located. Allow the water to flood the nest for several minutes, then turn the water off. You may have to repeat this process for a couple of days until the nest is completely flooded and gone.

Watch For More Bees

Keep a close eye out for more bees or another ground bee nest. These pests are smart and can end up building a nest elsewhere—more than likely in your yard again. Keep an eye out for more bee buzzing activity in your yard, being careful that you don't stumble upon the nest accidentally.

Dig Up The Nest

Once you don't see any more bees coming from the nest any longer, you should dig up the nest to ensure the bees don't return to the nest again. The nest may have been deep in the ground, and may not be completely ruined by the water. Dig up the nest using a shovel, then fill in the dip in your yard that will more than likely be left behind using fresh dirt to help seal the space in your yard.

Hire A Pest Control Professional

Hire a pest control company to get rid of the bees in your yard. They may be able to relocate them or can help you remove the nest to get the bees to leave on their own without actually harming the bees themselves. If you aren't sure about getting rid of the bees on your own, hire a professional to be safe.

If you have ground bees, they can be a nuisance, and they may be dangerous as well. Call a pest control company if you need help getting rid of this pest problem.
